Regarding ellipsis: I just came across a reference to the "text-overflow: ellipsis" attribute value in CSS, which I hadn't previously known about. This value is supported by IE and WebKit but, as of this writing, not Firefox (although various workarounds exist).


Another way is to add scroll bars in the dimensions that don't fit.
